On Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s mood board for today’s No. 21 Fall show, there were pictures of the ’70s political demonstrations that flared on college campuses and in the streets of numerous cities, including Paris; Milan; Berlin; and Berkeley, California. At that time, the whole world seemed to be set on fire. That rule-breaking, trailblazing, change-seeking energy is what makes the decade perennially fascinating; in the fight for freedom, the ’70s got there first—and quite stylishly.
